Your First Appointment
High-Quality Dental Care for Children
We’re excited to have the opportunity to introduce you to our office and our philosophy. By choosing a pediatric dental office, you’re taking a vital first step in creating a positive dental attitude for your child.
What to Expect
We want to better prepare you for your child’s first dental appointment, so it’s important that you know what to expect when you arrive:
We work hard to make your child comfortable and happy at the dentist.
As adults, we have to remember that the first visit to the dentist’s office is an adventure for young children; they will discover many things about their teeth and themselves. Some children will be excited, while others may feel apprehensive. However, our doctors and staff at Charlotte Pediatric Dentistry bring years of specialty training to a fun, kid-centered environment—one in which we work to give your child a good dental experience, starting at a young age.
We will answer your questions fully, and speak with you in detail about your child’s care.
To ensure that you have all the information you need, we promise to answer all your questions and speak candidly with you about your child’s symptoms and treatments and explain our recommendations clearly. Working together to provide quality care that fits into your budget, we can keep your child’s smile beautiful and healthy—without breaking your wallet.
There are a couple of things you can do to prepare and make the first appointment smoother.
You should be prepared to complete all insurance and health information forms needed to begin your child’s dental treatment before the first visit. We’ll file the insurance forms for you, but you can get a head-start on this process by downloading the new patient forms from this website and filling them out before your arrival. We offer CareCredit and accept payment options including MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.
Parent Guidelines
We invite you to stay with your child during the initial examination. But during future appointments, we suggest you let our staff accompany your child through the dental experience, which we believe encourages independence to help promote the overall growth and development of your child. It also allows us to gain your child’s confidence and can help your child overcome apprehension.
In the interest of the safety and privacy of other patients, we kindly ask that children who are not scheduled at this appointment remain in the reception area, even if they see one of our dentists at other times. An adult must supervise any young children in the reception room.
Please note that the use of cellular phones is strictly prohibited in the operatory. Not only can the extra conversation be distracting but it can also prevent our doctors and staff from close, careful communication with each young patient.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Practice Terminology
Kids can be apprehensive of big, scary medical terminology, and some of the words used to describe dental procedures can be frightening—even to adults. That’s why, when we talk with children about dental care, we’re careful to use words that create a positive, relaxed mindset. We choose more friendly terms and try to avoid words that might scare your child. You can further help your child have a good first visit by also talking about dentists and dental care in a positive and general manner. Learn some of our kid-friendly practice terminologies so you can better understand and use them, too.
Cancellation Policy
Your scheduled appointment is reserved specifically for your child. Any change in this appointment affects many other patients. If a cancellation is unavoidable, please call the office at least 24 hours in advance so that we may give that time to another patient if possible.
Should you have questions about any of the above information or need additional assistance at any time, please feel free to ask our staff or call us at (704) 286-0989. We’re here to help you and your child however we can.
Thank you for entrusting your child’s dental health to us.
